Two wardrobe stylists planning an engagement beside clothing rails

Behind the Curtain

From the first inquiry to the standing quarterly rhythm - what actually happens when you hire The Luxe Wardrobe, explained.

An email arrives on a Tuesday. It is brief - a man in Delhi, referred by a friend in Mumbai, would like to speak with our founder about his wardrobe. He has a public year ahead; his calendar is filling; he is not sure where to begin. Could a call be arranged in the coming week.

By the following Monday, the call has been held. By the Thursday after, he has met the founder in person at his residence in Golf Links. By the second week, a written proposal is with his chief of staff. By the fourth week, the audit is underway. By the third month, his wardrobe is composed for the year ahead. By the fifth month, he has stopped thinking about his clothes.

This piece is a walk through what actually happens between that first Tuesday email and the arrived state of an atelier engagement - because our clientele frequently report, near the end of their first year, that they wished they had understood the process before they began, and would have begun sooner.

The first inquiry and the private consultation

Every engagement begins with a private consultation. The first inquiry - by email, referral, or a discreet introduction - is answered within twenty-four hours by our founding team or a lead stylist. A brief exchange establishes the shape of the potential engagement: the wardrobe as it lives today; the calendar ahead; the residences involved; the preferred cities; the aesthetic direction.

The private consultation is scheduled at the principal’s residence - in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Dubai - or at your office if the principal prefers. It is an unhurried meeting, usually two hours, held with our founding team member or the proposed lead stylist. Nothing is committed at this stage. The purpose is mutual reading: we read the wardrobe, the life, the calendar; the principal reads us.

The scoping and the proposal

After the consultation, the scoping begins. Within seven to ten working days, a written proposal is delivered to the principal - or, where preferred, to his chief of staff or family office lead.

The proposal names the assigned stylist team; the recommended engagement structure (standing, quarterly, project-based); the initial audit plan; the sourcing and curation approach; the confidentiality framework; the fees and their reconciliation. Nothing is generic; every proposal is drafted against the specific consultation that preceded it. Nothing begins until the proposal is signed.

The engagement kickoff

Once signed, the engagement begins with the audit - two to three days on-site at the principal’s residence, during which every piece is walked, catalogued and photographed. In parallel, the lifestyle map is drafted from a series of shorter conversations with the principal, and where appropriate with his executive assistant, chief of staff, house manager, or spouse.

Within four to six weeks of kickoff, the initial curation is complete. Retentions are re-installed; restorations are dispatched to named atelier partners; the first sourcing edit is presented; the digital catalogue is delivered. From this point, the wardrobe is under our stewardship. The principal begins to feel the shift almost immediately - usually by the second month, occasionally sooner. A stylist call happens weekly in the first quarter, tapering into the standing quarterly rhythm as the wardrobe finds its shape and the atelier finds its cadence with the principal’s life.

The standing rhythm - year one and beyond

After the initial curation, the engagement moves into its standing rhythm - quarterly reviews, mid-quarter refinements, event-led interventions, and continuous digital catalogue upkeep. The stylist is always the same person; the point of contact does not change; the wardrobe is held in one head, over years.

Year one is the arc of the transition. Year two is the season in which the wardrobe becomes fully invisible. By the end of year two, the principal reports that the wardrobe has stopped being one of the things she manages - it is one of the things that manage themselves. They deepen; they do not tire. The stylist has, by year three, become the quiet keeper of a wardrobe intelligence no one else in the principal’s life holds - including, in many cases, the principal herself. This is what the arc is for.

The Tuesday email that begins an engagement is one email. The years that follow it are what the atelier is actually built for. Our clientele - in Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Dubai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Udaipur, Kolkata and beyond - describe the arc in the same terms: quieter, easier, more themselves.

This is the process, explained. It is also the process our atelier has spent years quietly refining, because our clientele deserve nothing less. There was no such profession in India when we set about building it; there is now. And it is the process The Luxe Wardrobe has, quietly, made the standard for what a considered wardrobe engagement should look like at this altitude.

2. How long does the initial audit take?

Two to three days on-site at your residence for a single-residence wardrobe, followed by a further week for catalogue completion and lifestyle mapping.

3. Do you require a long-term commitment?

No. Engagements can be standing, quarterly, or project-based. Many begin project-based and, over time, become standing.

4. How is the assigned stylist matched to me?

During the consultation, we read the wardrobe, calendar and aesthetic direction, and propose the correct stylist within our atelier. The match is proposed, not assigned; you sign off before work begins.

Yes. These are among our most active engagement cities, alongside Ahmedabad, Surat, Kochi, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Udaipur, London and Singapore.

Yes. Season-specific personal shopping, single-occasion styling, a wardrobe audit, or a wedding-season engagement are common entry points that often extend into standing engagements.

8. How is pricing structured?

Pricing is scope-based, reflecting the size of the wardrobe, the number of residences, the depth of curation and the calendar involved. Service fees are quoted separately from acquisitions and logistics, so the principal has full visibility into what is being paid for and to whom.
